  • It would be easier to me to list people I dislike - Eponine (yes, Eponine, who is a bully and tragic but not likable character), spoiled and nasty misnomer Rose DeWitt Bukater, sociopathic Scarlett O´Hara (burn Tara!)) and whole Southern upperclass, Jack Bauer and every other torture-happy piece of garbage in that series, Draco Malfoy (filth), Gaston and villagers from Beauty and the Beast(more filth), etc.
But Characters I like? Eeer... I like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Esmeralda from some adaptations of Hunchback, you know, heroines who have some moral backbone. In Val Lewton´s Bedlam has a heroine who is ass to fat people but who saves mentally ill of Bedlam from self-centered scum. Oh, and Edward Scissorshand is sympathetic character.

Eriks_Love, by "Other fictional characters," do you mean aside from Phantom-related characters?

RosesAreGorgeous, just because I'm curious, have you heard of "Notre-Dame de Paris" the musical? If so, how do you feel about the character Esmeralda in that particular incarnation? I happened to not like her character in this musical, but was wondering what you thought.

  • Oh, yes, the musical had wonderful music and drama (among ugly sets and costumes! ) She is not my favorite Esmeralda - Disney´s version and Salma Hayek´s Esme in this-story-and-caharacters-are-changed-so-much-that-you-can-thank-your-lucky-stars-there-is-still-a-period-setting-HOND from 1997 are examples of brave, good-hearted Esmes - and she actually reminds Hugo´s shallow, but heartbreakingly doomed version. She still says "Your face horrifies me, whatever I do" and clings to Phoebus just because he is young and handsome. On the other hand, she gives water to Quasimodo who tried to kidnap her, after all, and saves Gringoire from hanging.

My sister would agree with you - she is Sherlock fan, Jeremy Brett is his favorite screen/movie incarnation, and she can´t STAND Guy Ritchie´s version!

    I know.

    Here is a prime example:

Wikipedia: "Holmes is described in The Hound of the Baskervilles as having a "cat-like" love of personal cleanliness."

I adore Jeremy Brett's Sherlock too. Robert Downey Jr. character was cool but not Sherlock. I viewed it from the angle that it's an adventure movie and the characters just happen to have the same names as in Sherlock Holmes but it's not a Sherlock Holmes movie... otherwise I would hate it now it was just enjoyable. x)

I love all Leroux's original Phantom characters. But I must say I also very much adore Susan Kay's Nadir. Reading Leroux's Phantom I always wanted to know more about Daroga (and Erik, yes) and the relationship he had between Erik and him. It seemed like a very odd deep friendship but the oddness kinda stole the attention from the friendship part...

I also love all (Alexandre Dumas) four musketeers. Specially Athos for him tragedy and D'Artagnan for his wits and energy... and Pothos, he's funny.

Then I like Don Rosas version of Scrooge McDuck (Donald's uncle). It's deep and tragic, funny and strong.

And I love all the main characters in the movie Some like it hot. The best movie ever. Should be on everyone's list of ''movies I got to see before it's too late''. I have seen it like 20 times but the ''Nobody's perfect'' always cracks me up.

And then... I like Wolverine, the old comicbook Wolverine... x) There's just something in him that fascinates me, and it's not just that he can drink beer as much as he likes without having a hangover the next morning.

Oh, and John Marston from the video game Red Dead Redemtion... x)

For some reason, I couldn't edit.

Also, Lucy from Dracula and Dracula.

  • If evil characters are included, I enjoy - not necessary like but enjoy - about these:
Luxuriously sensuous vampire Clarimonde from Theophile Gautiers short story
    Dracula´s three "brides"
    Carmilla
    Erik (of course)
    Dracula
Frollo from Victor Hugo´s Notre Dame of Paris (NOT Disney´s version)

I've decided that I absolutely adore Leporello from Don Giovanni, but specifically, Feruccio Furlanetto's interpretation. I don't care if he's a wimp, I just want to squeeze him like a teddy bear.

    Lots, but my favorite?
Count Dracula. I looooove Bela Lugosi's version and I loooove the Van Helsing movie version (don't ask why because I may go on a fangirl rant).
The original novel version is awesome also... very intriguing.

I like lots and lots of characters from comic books. I even think I have a list somewhere... Almost all male characters. Ill have to think about the ones from books and movies some other time...

    Female:
Oscar François de Jarjayes <---Aristocrat girl-soldier who dresses as a man in 17th century France and becomes Marie Antoinette's personal guard. She's a very strong female lead.( Rose of Versailles, manga) http://25.media.tumblr.com/e21b9cacac ... ny5hdvDb1qzdpr4o1_500.gif
    .
Maaya Kitajima <---The Actress who wears a thousand masks, a case of nurture vs nature. She falls in love with a guy 11 years older than her. Instant Drama! ( Glass mask, manga) http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7jr91gpkQ1r5i12po1_500.jpg
    .
Rogue (X-men)<----She's got the worst possible mutant power.
    .
Bulma <---The most brilliant and beautiful scientist of the world. She built several spaceships and a time machine, married the second most powerful man in canon and keeps him on a tight leash (Dragon Ball Z)
    .
Rose <-----A girl with the power to read other's thoughts. Falls in love with the guy that killed her father while performing the plan to get her revenge. She does not stop the plan even after she realizes she loves him. Quite tragic.(Trace: korean webtoon)
    .
Usagi "Serena" Tsukino <----My favorite Non-Disney princess ever. I loved her dress when I was a kid. Her anime-only hate-love relationship with Darien/Tuxedo Mask was cute (Sailor Moon, manga)
    .
Ariel <----My favorite disney princess ever, that's just it. ( Disney's Little Mermaid)

    Male:
L Lawliet <---By proxy the 3 best detectives in the world. An eccentric loner, insomniac with a fixation with sweets. Quite endearing character... ( Death Note, manga by Takeshi Obata)
    .
Tuxedo Mask <---Prince of Earth (lol). I like him because he was my first Fictional crush. I loved his voice. Plus, he was a well-dressed gentleman with a cape and a mask...He intervened at the very last moment and saved the heroine throwing a Red Rose... He also threw bombs and fought with a cane( Sailor Moon, manga)http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0zt52vSHy1rr3prko3_250.gif
    .
Fujiwara no Sai <---A Go-playing Ghost from the Heian period, he was unjustly exiled and forbidden to play Go anywhere, then he drowned himself...only to return to modern-day japan as a ghost ( Hikaru no Go, manga by Takeshi Obata)
    .
Johann Liebert <---Serial killer. He can manipulate and charm his way with anyone. Planned mass genocide and suicide. Beware of the monster with the face of an angel...and with no name( Monster, manga by Naoki Urasawa) http://media.tumblr.com/99916d5563e98 ... ine_mnaeofhS2g1qz4rgp.gif
    .
Poppu <---A coward magician. In reality the only normal person in his group. He feels useless, but I love how his hurdles are much more difficult to overcome in comparison to others. He is actually quite brave and heroic ( Dragon Quest anime)
    .
Dilandou Albatou <---A mecha pilot with major issues. This gets weirder: he is actually the long lost sister of the guy he wants to kill, as Evil scientists kidnapped her and turned her into a murderous guy... (Escaflowne, anime)
    .
Terry Grandchester <--- A British-American Aristocrat boy. Renounced to his title and money to become an actor in Broadway. Then, he had to marry his stalker co-star and leave his girlfriend...because the co-star became disabled for saving him from falling stage-lights... (Candy Candy, anime)http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mcddc78Bgs1rht35zo1_500.gif

Just a funny trivia. I am much more outraged by how Emmy Rossum destroyed Bulma than Christine. I was so devastated with that Dragon Ball Z american movie... If she Killed Christine for some people, then she murdered and danced on Bulma's Grave for me.

Jack Sparrow, because he's funny, and brave while being a coward at the same time. And he fights for things without even knowing what he's fighting for.

Angel, from RENT. Very cute, inspirational character. His death had me in tears when I saw the show.

Lara Croft. The old version. Because Tomb Raider is my favorite video game.

Enjolras, for seriousness so serious that it's almost hilarious.

Random others that are hard to explain:

    Sirius Black.
    Marius Pontmercy.

Jean Valjean! Jean Valjean! Jean Valjean!

Ahem...what can I say? I absolutely love Valjean (book and musical).

Also, The Doctor (mainly the First, Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, Ninth, and Tenth...though I'm warming up to the Eleventh, too), Jane Eyre, and the entire set of characters on the sorely-missed TV show Remember WENN.
