Its unfortunate, that unlike broadway, the Westend doesn't release its weekly grossings. When in does open in New York, it'll be easier to track... as I am not sure about SEE, it may sound strange, but with Wicked not being on that list I'm inclined not to believe it. Esspecially since didn't Wicked break a record for the highest weekly grossings a couple of months back, and has now disappeared completley from the list (with some other unexpected ones being in its places)... it sounds odd... but yeah. How's Wicked doing, just to check the continuity of SEE... and where they get their stats from. (Their own ticket sales? Could they be selling them cheaper, or be a more popular ticketing agent?)

Edit* Re-checked and Wicked is on the list now, but still questioning where they get the info from, as I'm not convinced by it. The Mid-June list was the one I was refurring to when concerned that Wicked wasn't on it.

Mid-June stats: http://www.seetickets.com/see/top40.asp
Todays: http://www.seetickets.com/see/seetop40.asp?filler2=menu

Edit** One more thing, then I shut up. Looking at ticket pricings on SEE, LND compared to other musicals is very expensive, and it is still at the top of their list. Wicked is 65, and Phantom 85... so yeah... Have they cut the price of LND at all yet?

im not sure, but if see and ticketmaster etc are the only places selling lnd tickets. I think that most people order them from lnd website and they come from see dont they, whereas u can buy a lot of west end musical tickets from ticket boxes around l london. Im not sure if you can buy lnd tickets from these booths yet, although i might be wrong, so if sees figures are based on their sales alone then they wont be a true refection... i hope this post makes sense. Im sending it via a phone

You could buy LND tickets at various ticket booths in London when I was there in April, so I don't think sales are restricted in any way.

Bric, you said something about a period with no bookings this autumn - what did you mean by that? Or what does that mean, rather.

Does anyone know what the summer season is like for theatre and musicals in London? In Sweden (as far as I know) most theatres take a break and start a new season in the autumn. Is summer an off season in London or do all shows run as usual?

SEE Tickets has no LND tickets for sale November 1 through November 14. I read this bit of information on a theater board and checked it out. I haven't checked any other ticket sites, but I can't think of a reason SEE would act unilaterally.

Two weeks for further re-tooling?

Do you mean the period between October 30 and November 15?

I just now went to the LND site, clicked "Buy Tickets...," and am looking at the page (It's SEE Tickets), and there are none listed for that time period.

It is very true... there are none... which is a shame, because my birthday's in that period. (Not that I'd be likely to go... but I can dream, right? )

On another site (London Theatre Direct) you can only look at tickets until October, and on Theatre Tickets Direct, LND tickets aren't available for the aforementioned period at the beginning of November, from what I can see.

On another note, tickets can be booked up until the beginning of January 2011 - meaning that this booking period (which went from the 23rd of October, if I remember rightly), is about 2.5 months. Anyone have any idea how this compares to other shows? (I have no idea...)

well... thats annoying. dont know when they changed that. I went on there only a little while ago and did a dummy run to see what tickets i could get for my birthday. Which does fall in that period :( i'm gutted now. I'm sorry Bric you were completely correct. x

I'm sorry you are not going to be able to see the show for your birthday. You were looking forward to it, and that has to be disappointing.

You *could* get tickets for this show....

Very droll, Bric...

What a shame for you, Phantoholic! That's very disappointing. Maybe you can postpone your trip for a couple of weeks, then you'd get to see the show fresh from its 2-week re-vamp? Also it could prolong the birthday fun! Might be worth considering.

I would so love to see *THAT* show again. I've only seen it 3 times on stage, and that is NOT enough.

I've seen it more times than that, but it still isn't enough. I used to be able to see it every 2 to 5 years or so when the tour came to one of two cities near me, but those days are over. I'm considering a trip to Las Vegas--cheaper trip than to NYC since I am not inclined to throw my $$ away in the casinos.

---Not going to London.

Hmmmm.... if you get the chance, why not see it twice? I'm serious, you see so much more if you see a show more than once. Or twice or thrice. I've just seen Phantom in Japan, and wish I could have seen it twice, because in retrospect there are so many little things I'm wondering about.

I'm looking forward to reading your review

VERY interesting! Today, SEE tickets no longer shows a gap for ticket sales the first two weeks in November.

I find it hard to believe that SEE could have made a mistake involving that many tickets/days and the money that would have been involved. RUG/ALW had a change of mind?

RUG, of course, is mum. I wonder if they will ever offer an explanation.

I would say probably not. Now they've back-pedalled and covered it up, they're unlikely to tell us what the story is. It has, again, provoked discussion on the facebook page.

It certainly looks to me as if they've given up on the two-week re-hash idea - which is probably a smart move. What with the rumours already flying, and the resounding "a show that needs to shut for two weeks deserves to shut forever" sentiments that have been muttered, I'm not surprised that they've done it.

More anecdotal evidence about ticket sales - a friend of mine tried to get last-minute tickets for last Saturday's matinee, and there were only restricted view tickets available. This is also unsurprising to me, as, I believe, the Saturday matinees of shows often sells very well and better than other performances. Might help with the general picture, though...

I've missed something, I don't understand this. So there were no tickets available for a two week period this autumn on one of the ticket sites? Is this unusual? Did anyone try to get tickets for a date during those two weeks in any other way than through See tickets?

Yes, that's right - no tickets anywhere from the 1st-15th of Novemeber. I tried on two other websites, as above...

I hope that helps! It's all very fishy. I would think it's very unusual, and I haven't heard of it happening in any other case, but I don't really know much about this kind of thing.
