This is the recording, released on numerous labels, with Graham Bickley, Claire Moore and John Barrowman. Graham Bickley has never even been in Phantom. John Barrowman wasn't a bad Raoul on stage, but it rather pathetic here. Claire Moore sounds a little mature for Christine, but she's one of my favourite singers, and in my opinion she's the only real reason for getting this CD. It contains the main songs, has a good supporting cast including Mark Wynter and Gay Soper, but no one sounds as if they're really performing the parts and it's no substitute for a good cast recording.
Why they cast Bickley when they could have cast Peter Karrie, Dave Willetts, or any of the other popular but unrecorded Phantoms, God knows.
Note: This recording is now available from Jay records with Ethan Freeman replacing Graham Bickley - a great improvement.
