Ideal Phantom Cast

When I started this list my favourites were pretty clearly defined; now I have about three favourites in most of the roles, because I've seen so many casts (18 different Phantoms).

THE PHANTOM
Peter Karrie. Incredible voice, magnificent acting, strong stage presence: he got the perfect balance of all the different sides to the Phantom's character. Passionate, sexy, powerful, dangerous, but also vulnerable and tragic. He also puts more detail into his performance than anyone else I've seen in the role.
My other favourites would be Franc D' Ambrosio, Peter Cousens, and Ciaran Sheehan, all for different reasons. Peter Cousens never failed to move me to tears, and Ciaran Sheehan has one of the sexiest voices I've ever heard! I also really enjoyed Ethan Freeman and Grant Norman.

CHRISTINE
I've seen many Christines who I loved, but not so many who were really strong in both acting and voice. The best so far has been Lisa Vroman (definitely the best singer I've seen in the role); I also loved Teresa De Zarn, Megan Kelly, and Zoe Curlett. Shona Lindsay sometimes put little details into her acting that I've seen no one else do.

RAOUL
Mike Sterling or Alasdair Harvey. Alasdair is the only Raoul who has really come across as Leroux's foolish young boy who's madly in love. Mike Sterling just about wins though, because although his Raoul isn't as naive and innocent, his acting, singing and stage presence are just outstanding. (I'll add that I liked Clive Carter, too.)
More recently, I thought that Patrick Wilson was by far the strongest of the three leads in Joel Schumacher's movie of the Lloyd Webber Phantom. I would probably now rate him as the best Raoul I've seen.

ANDRE
Mark Wynter. People wolf-whistled Mark Wynter at the beginning of the Masquerade scene because he has such nice legs.

FIRMIN
Kevin Wainwright or Terry Hodges.

Mme GIRY
Leila Martin, outstanding (even if she had some pretty odd opinions about who Meg's father was...!). Kristina Marie Guiget was very good too.

CARLOTTA
Jasna Ivir and Kim Stengel, closely followed by Geena Jeffries, and Patricia Hurd.

PIANGI
Patrick Togher or Roland Rusinek.

REYER
Philip Griffiths.

MEG
I never thought I'd have a favourite Meg, but Sara Brenner in Toronto was excellent.

LEVEVRE
I definitely never thought I'd have a favourite Lefevre, because Lefevre doesn't really do anything. Gary Krawford, in Toronto, interacted with the Managers and Carlotta far more than anyone else I've seen in the role.
